In keeping with its corporate commitment to embrace responsible environmental policies, Avaya has undertaken all due diligence to ensure that products offered to markets in the European Union (EU) are in compliance with the EU Directive on the Restriction of the use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment. This Directive, commonly referred to as "RoHS", mandated that the substances lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) be severely restricted in electrical and electronic equipment by July 2006. To comply with these directives, a comprehensive review of all Avaya products, as well as products manufactured by Avaya partners, was instituted. Avaya and our partner products were examined to determine if they were compliant. Changes, where required, were made and fully tested, including destructive physical analysis, thermal cycle and static temperature testing. To ensure an uninterrupted supply has established comprehensive review and test processes with its contract manufacturers on a worldwide basis. This review process ensures continued high quality at the component and circuit board level. Avaya's contract manufacturers have provided extensive documentation on their compliance practices in manufacturing and testing. New RoHS compliant components are subject to lab stress testing in addition to the same level of functional and system testing that we currently perform. We believe that the ongoing combination of component and product level testing ensures full RoHS compliance while delivering the same level of quality across the Avaya product portfolio.
Similarly, China has enacted RoHS regulations requiring the labeling of products containing any of the above RoHS substances as well as labeling of packaging material content. These regulations were effective March 1, 2007. All Avaya products sold in China meet the requirements of these regulations. |
